BlackRock has promoted Dan Veiner and Jatin Vara to co-heads of global trading, replacing Supurna VedBrat, who has become deputy head of trading and remains co-head electronic trading & market structure.
“The actions we announced today and in October will deepen our connections with clients, further strengthen our investment platform and promote BlackRock’s next generation of leaders,” Chief Executive Officer Larry Fink and President Rob Kapito wrote in a memo dated 14 December 2022.
Veiner was previously global head of fixed income trading, having initially joined the firm via Barclays Global Investors (BGI) in 2003, which merged with BlackRock in 2009. Prior to his current role, he was head of EMEA fixed income trading based in London. Before entering fixed income trading, Veiner was a senior derivatives trader and managed the Americas team responsible for executing trades for the Multi-Asset Strategies and Scientific Active Equity groups.
Before joining BGI, he was an options market maker trading on the Pacific Stock Exchange floor backed by Group One Trading.
Jatin Vara, was previously head of international trading & global head of emerging markets trading and has long been a vocal figure in the buy-side trading community.
Addressing a ‘view on liquidity’ panel at the Fixed Income Leaders Summit (FILS), being held in Nice, France in 2022, he said, “The definition of high touch and low touch has changed. The rules are being rewritten. The breadth of liquidity has become more concentrated, and shifted towards the high touch function. That’s a new normal. I’m not talking about pandemic, I’m talking purely about volatility.”
