Barclays has appointed Denise Wong as head of sustainable and impact banking, Asia Pacific.
Based in Hong Kong, Wong will be responsible for advising corporate and institutional clients on leveraging opportunities to meet their sustainability objectives, as they navigate the transition to a low carbon economy.
She will report regionally to Vanessa Koo, head of investment banking, Asia Pacific.
“As we see increased demand from our clients in Asia Pacific to support their sustainability goals, Denise’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to providing them with the best expertise to help them navigate the transition,” said Koo.
Wong’s appointment brings her back to Barclays, where she worked for over 12 years, most recently as head of consumer & retail, Asia Pacific ex-Japan for investment banking.
She rejoins Barclays from Vu Venture Partners, where she served as a venture capital investor, as well as chief financial officer at Green Monday, one of Asia’s emerging alternative protein companies.
The new hire marks the latest in a series of sustainable finance-focused appointments by Barclays, including several senior appointments to its sustainable and sustainable and impact investment banking (SIB) team announced in July.
Last year, Barclays set a goal to facilitate $1 trillion of sustainable and transition financing between 2023 by the end of 2030.
In July the company said that it has delivered over $112 billion of green finance towards its goal to date.
Wong will also have functional reporting to Brian Reilly and Marie Freier, global co-heads of sustainable and impact banking.
