Sibbern, who also joins the executive board, will take up his new position as global head of exchanges on 1 January 2024. He currently heads up European markets at Nasdaq, in which role he will be replaced by Roland Chai, current EVP of market platforms.
Sibbern, who has expertise in the fields of trading, funds, post-trade, listings, IPOs, data, index business and technology, will be responsible for both the Swiss and Spanish Exchanges at SIX, as well as the digital exchange SDX. He will replace Christoph Landis, who has headed up the exchange business of SIX on an interim basis since February 2023.
He currently heads up Nasdaq markets and exchanges across Nordic and Baltic regions, and is also responsible for trading, listing, clearing, settlement and data businesses in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland and the Baltic nations.
Previously, Sibbern was executive vice president for Nasdaq’s global information services (GIS), based in New York, having previously led Nasdaq’s global commodities business and served as President of the Nasdaq Copenhagen Exchange. Earlier in his career, he managed Nasdaq’s Nordic cash equities and derivatives Markets.
Before joining Nasdaq, he was head of trading at Stocknet Norway and CEO at E*TRADE Bank Denmark. He holds an Executive MBA, a Diploma in Business Administration and an MSc in Economics & Business Administration and Law from Copenhagen Business School.
Jos Dijsselhof, CEO of SIX, said: “I am delighted that Bjørn, an experienced and very well-connected capital market specialist, will be joining SIX at such an exciting time in the company’s development. We have every confidence he will be key to driving the continued advancement of our exchange business, making a substantial contribution to the overarching growth strategy of the company. I would also like to thank Christoph Landis for leading the exchanges on an interim basis over the last few months – he has done a phenomenal job”.
Landis will return to his previous role as head of IT and member of the SIX Executive Board.
Roland Chai, who will reportedly take on Sibbern’s role at Nasdaq, currently leads Nasdaq’s marketplace technology business. Prior to this he served as the firm’s first global chief risk officer, before which he was head of post-trade at the Hong Kong Exchange.
