Nominations are open for the Best Execution, The Desk and Markets Media’s European Markets Choice (EMCA) Awards which recognise the best and brightest in capital markets trading and technology.
The nominations are generated by the industry, for the industry, and over the coming weeks we will be giving you the chance to nominate outstanding firms, and in certain cases outstanding individuals, that have contributed something extraordinary to the industry. The awards span the entire market ecosystem ranging from buyside trading desks to sellside banks, global exchange groups, incumbent technology providers and the fledging fintechs ready to disrupt the status quo.
The EMCAs are a mirror of the Market Choice Awards in the US which are celebrating their tenth anniversary in a live person event at the Boat House in Central Park on 4 May. It has become one of the most distinguished awards ceremonies in the industry. Our methodology in selecting nominees and then winners is simple yet thorough, and keeps the focus on the most important opinions: those of market participants.
There is no doubt that the last year has been challenging. Just as the world was adjusting to a new post-Covid paradigm, higher inflation and higher interest rates – not seen in a generation – have tested the mettle of even the most experienced market participants. The macroeconomic picture will continue to be unsettled in 2022 especially with the humanitarian crisis in the war in Ukraine and the global impact of sanctions against Russia. Navigating these uncharted territories will require not only the latest technological tools but also high level expertise and nerves of steel.
Last year’s EMCA winners are a reflection of the calibre of organisations and individuals that are selected. They include Citadel Securities and Jane Street for best liquidity providers for equities and fixed income respectively, Allianz Group for best fixed income alpha generator and Man Group for best buyside equities trading desk. On the sellside, Kepler Cheuvreux took top prize for best equities trading desk and JP Morgan for fixed income trading desk. Meanwhile, David Schwimmer of London Stock Exchange Group was named CEO of the year
As with the MCAs, the Instinet Positive Change Awards will be a hallmark and headline the programme. Outstanding contributions to the industry and to society broadly will be recognised for across three areas: sustainability, diversity & inclusion and market visionary. In 2021, Rob MacKay of Itiviti won the Visionary award while the top accolade for Diversity & Inclusion went to Citi, and Amundi Asset Management was acclaimed for Sustainability.
Unlike last year, we are pleased to announce that the EMCA will be held in person on 30 June at The Londoner Hotel in London’s West End.
