A memorial service for industry stalwart Brian Winterflood was held at St Botolph’s Church on Thursday 21 September, with hundreds of people joining to pay their final respects to the much-loved figure.
The City came together yesterday in an extraordinary show of respect in memory of Brian Winterflood, MBE, who passed away in June this year, aged 86.
At 11am on Thursday, over 700 people attended a memorial at St Botolph’s Church in Bishopsgate to pay their respects, with standing room only.
The memorial was arranged by the family of Brian, his wife Doreen and their children, Mark, Sarah and Guy, paying tribute to a man known across the financial services and UK stockbroking community as a true city gentleman.
Guy Winterflood paid tribute to his father as having lived his entire life through the London Stock Exchange motto of Dictum Meum Pactum – “my word is my bond”.
Brian Winterlood will be remembered for his many achievements: particularly his driving force towards the creation of the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), as well as for his philanthropy.
Stacey Parsons, a lifelong friend of the Winterflood family and former colleague of Brian, commented: “The spirit and integrity of Brian lives on through those who he helped, mentored, employed and loved.”
He once said: “I wouldn’t change a day regarding this business. I always said I’d like my epitaph to read: ‘Please can I go around again.’”
